PHmuseumThrough this 1st edition, in partnership with Europe's top camera reseller MPB, we will select one project to be published as a fully-funded photobook curated by PhMuseum.
From today you can apply to the PhMuseum 2025 Photobook Award, our first grant dedicated to visual publishing. The biennial open call will support the creation, production and distribution of original publications, with no thematic or geographical restrictions, aiming to become a recurring initiative to discover, support and publish photographic work.
Through this 1st edition, organised in collaboration with Europe's top camera reseller MPB, a project will be selected to be published as a photobook curated by PhMuseum, who will cover production and distribution costs. The book will have a minimum print run of 500 copies, with 50 copies and 5% of royalties destined to the author.
MPB will further identify in collaboration with PhMuseum an author for their Special Mention, granting a €800 voucher to spend on used photo and video gear on mpb.com.
The book will be curated by PhMuseum Artistic Director Giuseppe Oliverio and Visual Editor Camilla Marrese across editing, design, and production. It will be printed by Summer 2026, and presented at PhMuseum Days 2026 International Photography Festival in Bologna, Italy. Co-publishing opportunities are also an option, which will be considered on a case by case basis.
All approaches are welcome, from research-based projects to more instinctive bodies of work. You can submit ongoing or completed projects that haven’t yet been developed in the book form. If you have it, you are welcome to upload a book dummy in pdf format.
Entries will be reviewed by a jury composed of Max Pinckers (photographer), Yumi Goto (independent curator and publisher), Karla Hiraldo Voleau (photographer), Giuseppe Oliverio (PhMuseum founding and artistic director) and Camilla Marrese (PhMuseum visual editor). A shortlist of up-to 30 projects will be published in July, and the main prize recipient will be announced at Photobook Mania 2025, PhMuseum's first publishing event happening in Bologna, Italy on 18-19 October.
Photobook Mania will also host a collective exhibition featuring the work of all the finalists, representing an opportunity for the community to reunite and celebrate visual publishing together.
