The KBr Photo Award 2025, presented biennially by Fundación MAPFRE through its renowned KBr Photography Center in Barcelona, invites established and emerging photographers worldwide to submit compelling proposals for documentary-style photography projects. This prestigious international photography competition aims to foster innovative storytelling through powerful visual narratives, encouraging photographers to explore pressing contemporary issues, cultural landscapes, and human experiences with authenticity and creativity. Participants are expected to present original, unpublished projects, whether entirely new concepts or significant continuations of existing photographic investigations, clearly demonstrating potential for substantial development. The award emphasizes documentary photography, seeking entries that reveal insightful narratives, innovative artistic vision, and socially relevant content capable of engaging diverse global audiences. Selected projects will benefit from comprehensive mentorship provided by industry professionals, facilitating both artistic growth and practical project execution. The winning project, carefully chosen by a distinguished international jury composed of curators, photography experts, and cultural leaders, will receive substantial support, including a generous financial prize and significant public exposure. The KBr Photo Award winner gains the opportunity to showcase their completed work through high-profile solo exhibitions at the esteemed KBr Photography Center in Barcelona and Fundación MAPFRE’s gallery in Madrid. Additionally, the award-winning photographs will be extensively documented in a professionally produced catalogue, further elevating the photographer’s international reputation and contributing to their career trajectory within the global photographic community. The winner receives a €25,000 cash award to develop the project within ten months, plus mentoring; their work will be showcased in solo exhibitions at KBr Barcelona and Fundación MAPFRE Madrid and accompanied by a published catalogue.
