In the 2025 edition, the award features distinct categories to address contemporary themes and nurture new talent. The "Sustainability" category invites professional photographers to submit works that explore the sustainable development of our planet and society, reflecting pressing environmental and social issues. The "German Peace Prize for Photography," established in collaboration with the City of Peace Osnabrück since 2019, seeks entries that conceptually address the theme of ’peace’ through the medium of photography, encouraging visual narratives that promote harmony and understanding. Additionally, the "Emerging Photographer" category is dedicated to up-and-coming young talents, including photography students, trainees, and assistants, providing them with a platform to showcase their innovative perspectives..
The Felix Schoeller Photo Award not only offers substantial cash prizes—€5,000 for winners in the Sustainability and Emerging Photographer categories, and €10,000 for the German Peace Prize for Photography—but also provides significant exposure opportunities. Shortlisted works are published in the website gallery, featured in online campaigns, and presented in the high-quality ’Winners and Nominees’ exhibition.
